How to use

Use a cotton pad or apply with fingertips to face and neck after using Equals Even’s Spot Control Face Wash. Start once a day as part of your skincare routine, and increase to twice daily as needed, avoiding the delicate eye area. If dryness or peeling occurs, reduce to once a day or every other day. Do not apply to broken skin. Always use SPF during the day.

We formulated this toner with three gentle acids because developing skin needs regular exfoliation to prevent clogged pores, but it needs to be gentle enough to use every day without irritation. I've never used acids before - is this safe for beginners?

Yes, and we've designed the usage instructions with this in mind. Start using it once a day (ideally in the evening) and gradually increase to twice daily as your skin builds tolerance. If you experience any dryness or peeling, simply reduce back to once a day or every other day. This allows your skin to adapt without irritation.

Do I need to use SPF if I'm using this toner for teens?

Yes, always. AHAs can increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun, so SPF during the day is essential when using this product. This is good practice for all skincare routines, but particularly important when using exfoliating acids. Apply SPF every morning as the final step in your routine.

Can I use this on broken skin?

No, do not apply to broken skin or open spots. This toner is designed to prevent breakouts by exfoliating dead skin cells and keeping pores clear. For broken skin, use our Spot Control Serum instead, which is formulated for direct application on blemishes.

Does this toner contain Azelaic Acid or Ceramides?

No. This toner's actives are a trio of AHAs (Glycolic, Malic and Mandelic Acid) alongside Centella Asiatica. Azelaic Acid is used in our Spot Control Serum, formulated for direct application on active breakouts, while Ceramides feature in our Soothing Repair Serum, designed to strengthen the skin barrier. Used together, the four-step routine covers exfoliation, targeted treatment and barrier repair all in one system designed specifically for tween and teenage skin.

Does this toner contain witch hazel, or come as pre-soaked pads?

No to both. Unlike traditional toners, ours doesn't use witch hazel or alcohol-based astringents, which can be drying for developing, teenage skin. It's also not pre-soaked pads, instead it's a liquid exfoliator, applied with a cotton pad or clean fingertips, so you're in control of exactly how much product you use.

Does this toner contain lactic acid?

No. This toner uses a different trio of AHAs: Glycolic Acid for effective exfoliation, alongside Malic and Mandelic Acid, both gentler AHAs that help smooth skin texture without excess irritation. Together, they offer a gentle exfoliating toner for skin that's still building tolerance to acids.

Can this toner help with dull skin, dark spots or uneven skin tone?

Yes. By gently exfoliating and clearing away dead skin cells, the AHAs in this toner help reveal brighter-looking skin and support a more even skin tone over time, including helping to reduce the appearance of dark spots left behind after breakouts.

Is this a PHA toner?

No, this is an AHA toner, not PHA. PHA (Gluconolactone) is used in our Spot Control Face Wash instead, as a gentler exfoliating option for the cleansing step. This toner uses AHAs for a slightly more targeted exfoliation as the next step in your routine, after cleansing.

Does this toner contain BHA (salicylic acid)?

No, this is an AHA toner, not a BHA toner. Its exfoliating power comes from a trio of AHAs instead — Glycolic, Malic and Mandelic Acid — alongside Centella Asiatica to support skin recovery. AHAs work on the skin's surface to clear away dead skin cells and support cell turnover, while BHA (salicylic acid) works differently, penetrating into the pore itself. We've chosen AHAs across the whole Equals Even range rather than BHA, to gently support blemish-prone teenage skin.

Do I still need a moisturiser after using this toner?

Yes. This toner exfoliates and preps the skin, but it isn't a moisturiser itself. Follow with Spot Control Serum to treat active spots, then finish with Soothing Repair Serum, which provides the hydration and barrier support a moisturiser would.
